A Sad End to a Great Paper
February 27, 2008
Although Richard posted a link to a mutlimedia slideshow about the Alburqueque Tribune’s last day, I figured I would provide a more comprehensive series of links having to do with the end of one of the finest newspapers in America.
First, an absolute, must see/read slideshow from the current and past photo staff of the Tribune. Some amazing photographers and editors have made their way through the paper, and many of them share very interesting and insightful thoughts in the presentation. Second there are a couple of interesting videos about the paper’s last day and another on long-time Tribune subscribers.
For anyone unfamiliar with the story of how the end of the paper came about here are several stories:
- The Trib’s news story
- A great column about what the end of the paper means to journalism
- An Editor and Publisher story with some details about the past, present and future of the situation
Good luck to all the great journalists from the Trib

Why I love the Canon G9
February 23, 2008
I have been a big fan of the Canon Powershot series for a long time. I've owned the SD100, SD200, SD500 and SD1000 and now the G9. The reason I loved the 100 thru 1000 series was their compact size and overall quality. So the G9 was an obvious 'first look' when I needed a new P&S.
Every professional photographer owns a personal point and shoot. Why? Who wants to carry that big ass Mark II on your way to the market? Anyway, when I started looking for a back-up camera to use on assignment instead of my Sony HD video camera, the G9 caught my eye. WHAT? The G9 as a back-up for a Sony HD video camera? That's right. When you work for a newspaper who wants their staff to produce Read more
The Lourdes of Twang | That’s some good audio!
February 23, 2008
I just got through watching The Lourdes of Twang and I thought the audio in this project was really well produced and wanted to share this with everyone.
It’s about the Martin Guitar Factory in the Leigh Valley of Pennsylvania and takes you on a journey through the factory. There’s also a nice Interactive Graphic that goes with the story, if you’re interested in how Martin assembles their guitars.
What struck me the most was the simple, but great use of nat sound and the audio narration by Emily S. Rueb along with the production help of Amy O’leary. So if you get some time this weekend, kick off your shoes and explore the Lourdes of Twang.
