The headphone jack was something I was wondering about. I know it doesn’t have one but it does have an audio/video 3.5mm output, which is what my Canon Elura 100 has. I am able to stick my headphones just over half way into the A/V out jack and I pick up the audio without the horrible video noise. There are also some easy to make converters that take out the video noise on the A/V out jack and just leave the clean audio. Here is a thread on the subject about the Elura 100, the converters are discussed in the last two posts. (I’m sure there are other sites out there that go into more detail)

I don’t know if the same fix will work with the 5D, but I really hope it does. (Don’t feel obligated to reply if it conflicts with your NDA)

ok, i think i’m still under my NDA, but this is what i will say right now. No XLR, but it has a mini jack. i’ve hooked up a wireless mic system to the camera and let my subject run free, awesome audio quality. No way to monitor the audio, no levels or headphone jack. a bit of a minus, but i have to fail on getting good audio with an external mic hooked up. built in mic sucks, of course. AF and live preview mode to focus are a bit difficult, more on that later. BUT the best damn thing about this is the quality of the low light footage. it’s truly unreal! It wouldn’t surprise me if Hollywood adopted this as a b-cam for low light hard to reaches places to light or set up a big rig.
I’ve been crazy busy, only now getting to really play with this puppy.

Oh, and if this kit works well for VJ work I may be finally ready to e-bay my Nikon F3′s fast fixed focal length glass and my full wet darkroom and all of the beautiful relics of my NIkon-loving past.

Looks like Nikon will never catch up. Canon has so many decades of video experience behind them now.

Still love my A1U for picture stories but miss my SLR for taking REAL photos.

OK. Do give us the details, Richard! The advertising/art-directed commercial Michael shot was nice but would really like to see how a camera like this helps an everyday, editorial shooter do platypus work. Particularly interested in how the audio capture works and what the issues are with that – Is there an XLR in? Is there a decent preamp? One or two channel of audio.

As you know – high definition audio is more important than hi-def pictures.

Do give it a go and let us know!
