Ok, I've seen my movies made my own little inspirational video now comes the Flash interface. I put a few ideas in my notebook, now I'm off to a 'mega' link site for Flash inspiration and ideas, everything from tutorials and free code, can be found here.
This project was pushed to the back burner so I could work on this Mavericks piece. Not to mention the pub date was pushed back a few weeks, so it gives me some breathing room. With the extra time, I decided I would also produce my very first interactive graphic. When this project is done, I will have shot and edited the video, put together the Flash stage and created the interactive graphic. I've had fun doing some simple games for the paper, Grand Prix and Barry Bonds Home Run Derby but thought it was time to try an info/graphic. So I have been working on the Flash for the interactive graphic and finally edited all the usable/good segments from my video shoot in Final Cut Express. I also imported all the usable audio clips–recorded with my Edirol R-09–into GarageBand. I then stripped all the audio off my video clips and imported them into GB as well. This means I have a FCE file with all my video clips and a GB file with the possible audio I might use. I've gone through both files, watched/listened and made a few notes about everything. From the first few viewing, I can already tell, because of the nature of the story, I'm going to have a hard time putting this together. It's more of an essay than a narrative. I think I will actually have to use some narration. I'm generally not a big fan of narration, so I'll see what I can do, to minimize it. When I hit this kind of situation where there is no definative visual narrative, I go to the audio and if I've done my job well, then there should be some narrative in the audio. I spent the last few days, just working with the audio. Today I put about 2 minutes of audio under the video track and started playing around. I'm very happy with the opening 30 seconds or so, then it falls apart. Dai Sugano, a master of editing, looked at the piece and gave me some fantasic feedback and ideas. I will be working on the piece the rest of the week and will report back.
