Bonneville Salt Flats: Fast Friends

The multimedia and video are solid, but what really blows me away is the entire package. Richard, thanks for the kind comments.

We have been striving to create ‘destinations’ for you to end up on freep.com, as the default look (created by a necessarily heavily-automated system) makes our ‘article’ pages look like every other page on the site.

The analogy I’ve used is that websites are like huge airports and eventually you’ve got to get to Tahiti, not just wander around in the damned airport!

Our first attempt at this was our story about the 40th anniversary of the song ‘Respect’ by home-girl Aretha Franklin. That’s at:
http://media.freep.com/respect/index.html

We’ve also got an occasional series called ‘We Are Michigan’ that uses the Flash format somewhat similar to Speed Week, but not quite as involved.

We’ve got a big package coming out in a few weeks that will have more of the look, but with audio slideshows created in FCP rather than video. Stay tuned!

Best,

Rich,

I love the new look of your blog. It’s clean, easy to navigate and has all the old categories I couldn’t find on the most recent version of your site. It looks similar to the very first Multimediashooter. AWESOME!!!

PS. Really nice multimedia and design work from the Freep.

Hey, this neat. Crosses a bit in the ‘Twighlight Zone’ with the dark narration but What a great cast of characters: The Bike, Bonneville, “Rosie” and the white guys screaming ‘Holy Shit!”
As newspaper newsrooms do more of this work everyday, I imagine that it won’t take 19 people to produce a multimedia project like this. Right?
