Some of these I've mentioned before, but maybe you missed them and who couldn't use another list of cool stuff in their life. Here are some new, cool, and old tools that Joe Weiss and I came up with as a reference for the NPPA Multimedia Immersion Workshop.
So what is The Levelator? It's software that runs on Windows or OS X (universal binary) that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations from one speaker to the next, for example. It's not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. It's much more than those tools, and it's much simpler to use. The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Leveler's application window, and a few moments later you'll find a new version which just sounds better.
Switch Audio Format Converter is mp3 conversion software that is free to download. Convert wav to mp3 and much more.
VisualHub bridges the gap between numerous complicated video formatting standards, and people that just want to get the job done.
SlideShowPro is an ActionScript 2.0 component for Flash MX 2004, Flash 8 and Flash CS3 that helps you display photo galleries and slide shows on your own web site. With over 60 customizable options, SlideShowPro works how you want it to, and can easily be styled and resized to match your existing site design — all with a simple point and click user interface.
If you're not story boarding, you need to start!
Moleskine Story Board Notebook
The new Moleskine Storyboard notebook is ideal for advertising creatives, graphic designers, filmmakers, and cartoonists. Each page consists of a sequence of storyboard frames for drawing mini-stories. The first half of the book has two frames per page – the last half has four frames per page along the left side, with room to write text to the right of each frame. A great productivity tool to help create graphic and narrative depictions.
Headphones that are michrophones as well!?#@$ Minidisco.com

iVideo is the equivalent of iPhoto or iTunes for your video files. … Instead, we created iVideo – to elegantly organize your videos
Worth a look for all your personal movie files.
Not only is this project WAY COOL, it's now open source! Bless them! I've been hiding this cuz I wanted to use it for a project first, but what the hell.
Zamzar is dedicated to helping you transform your songs, videos, images and documents into different formats. Our mission is:
for as many file formats as possible"
We are intent on bringing order to your filesystem by offering you a one stop solution for all your file conversion needs. Like others we were fed up with having files in all sorts of formats, and no easy way of converting between them – the quest to find a better way led to the birth of Zamzar.
Vixy.net. This service allows you convert a Flash Video / FLV file (YouTube's videos, etc) to MPEG4 (AVI/MOV/MP4/MP3/3GP) file online. It is using a compressed domain transcoder technology. It converts FLV to MPEG4 faster and less lossy than a typical transcoder.
Enjoy,

Do you think those headphones / microphones (SoundPro SP-TFB-2HTO) can be used to record mobile phone interviews? Or can you recommend other gadgets for this purpose?
You rock!
good questions, i can’t say for sure, but i am sure there are other, prob better ways to record phone interviews, i’ll ask our reporter, who do it all the time.
About phone interviews, Ryan pointed me over to this post a couple days ago over at Multimedia Reporter: http://multimediareporter.blogspot.com/2007/06/talk-dirty-to-me.html
It links to a cheat sheet with tips on post production and gets into the science of sound. And best of all it’s all catered around Audacity (yay! free.)
Iono about you, but even after watching the Audio Dojo RRS videos I still don’t find Pro Tools or Audition to be that easy (or cheep)… sure Audacity isn’t always intuitive, but it’s free and this phone interview trick looks like it’s pretty powerful to. I haven’t had to use it myself yet (hopefully will never have to) but it seems to make sense.
