I'm on a Saturday morning caffine high! And boy do I have an idea. The first ever multimediashooter.com CONTEST! That's right.  There are even cool prizes. I've stocked up the prize vault with Steady Sticks for your video camera, noise cancelling headphones,  books, dvds, first edition multimediashooter.com  t-shirts and microphones! WHAT? Confused? Well me too, but that's nothing new. Here's the challenge for all you 'rule-breaking',  'artsy-fartsy', 'rules, we don't need no stinking rules', 'viva la revolucion',  or just those who wanna join the 'being different because we can' crowd. Enough babble, 'babel' —which should have won the Oscar, by-the-way— but I digress. Ok, the details.

  1. RULES: 'rules, we don't need no stinking rules'
  2. ELIGIBILITY: ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you can or have already dreamed-up and created.
  3. WHY? Because we can. And, to get those creative juices flowing. You know those feelings you have everyday, but somehow think you can't let them 'flow' at 'work' because they don't fit the 'traditional' idea of News, Feature, or Sports?
  4. WHAT? ANYTHING!  Soundslides, video, flash, one image, an audio file, I mean ANYTHING. JUST BE CREATIVE. Follow your cat for 30 seconds, I don't care as long as it gets those juices flowing. Just remember 'this isn't your grandma's contest.'
  5. DEATILS: Send your link/url to contest@multimediashooter.com You can even send the raw files and multimediashooter will host the project.
  6. DEADLINE: Friday March 30. Winners will be announced on April Fool's Day.
  7. Questions: just leave a comment on this post.

Let's show'em our creative potential!

file size, data rate, any tech specs limitations?

03.03.07

as long as it plays on the web and it’s not a 30 minute mini-doc, we should be fine. file size try to stay under 15mb but bigger just let me know. i’ll do my best to handle anything.

Who’s gonna judge? How many entries can we do?

03.03.07

As many as you want. And for the first one, I’ll get some staffers at the Merc to help me judge, if it takes off who knows.

03.03.07

Wow! You’re so excited you can’t even spell March right. I’m in. Thanks for the enthusiasm.

This is going to be fun! Thanks!

Way to go Richard. And PRIZES to boot.

03.03.07

Excellent idea! I have one question: where’d all the loot come from? I don’t image (but slap me up side the head if I’m wrong) that you would pony up for all the prizes out of your own pocket.

(Sorry, the reporter in me forced me to ask this question.) :)

well, we can thank all the folks who have bought books from the sidebar. They are supporting the site and getting something back, so instead of me spending the amazon associates kick-backs I’m reinvesting them in the site so to speak.

Hi!

I’m preparing to enter a video for this contest but I am perplexed at the variety of ways to export video.

There seems to be no concensus on codec and settings for presenting on the web and I end up doing it differently each time. Does anyone here know a great way to prepare video? Settings for compressor from FCP? HEEELLLLLP MEEEEE!

I would like a compression scheme that would keep the video crisp but small in fiel size.

Thanks guys!

ps. is ther any kind of discussion forum on this site? Did I miss it somehow? It would be very helpful to have…

03.03.07

Today is your lucky day! I am working RIGHT NOW on a tutorial for video compression. It will be posted tonight.

We had a forum, but not enough people used it, in fact no one used it. It still baffles me. But I really try to help folks asap as long as they leave a commment.

I think this site will grow exponentially. Please re-post a forum in a few months. I am sure people will start to use it.

Thanks guys, this is an awesome resource….I am sharing it with everyone I know. Especially those who embrace the future….and it is an exciting future!

Re: investing the Amazon “kickbacks” back in the site… sweet! That’s very cool. And thanks!

Rich,

I wanted to submit my project for your contest, but it may be too late by now…. For some reason I thought The deadline was on March 31 not March 30…
