Thanks, Richard! I’m tucking this away for safekeeping.
Just curious if you have any recommendations on the video camera front? I’ve played around with a Canon Powershot S3 which does video and image stabilization keeps things steady. It’s fairly cheap, too.

Great job. Good overview of the dark art. Just wondering why you choose qMusic in Quicktime compression over AAC?
my file size test was much lower with qmusic; no real loss/difference in quality vs. acc.
Since there’s no clear place for me to post/share this, I’ll put it here for now :)
I bought and read the Hillman Curtis books and they are great. Really inspirational and really easy to connect with.
Here’s a link to Hillman Curtis’s video web page. It’s interesting to see storytelling/video art, from a designers perspective. In a way it’s a bit more honest feeling than a lot of stuff I’ve seen from photojournalists.
Maybe it’s because Hillman never learned the ‘Rules’ about storytelling….he just went out and did it instead.

Richard, thanks for a great tutorial! It goes far in de-mystifying some parts of the production process.
I put off clicking on it for a few days because frankly I am feeling a little overwhelmed by the video process lately (especially after watching some of the high-quality stuff on here, and reading about some of the high-end and pricey equipment and software). A lot of what you discussed in the compression tutorial applies equally well to even Adobe Premiere Elements, which I am currently using. I am looking forward to part 2.
