Thanks for doing this, especially since the source file is available too! Just like Lynda.com:) I think a lot of people will find this useful.
If you want me to help, and maybe do a short tutorial on something just let me know.

You did an amazing job on this tutorial. Much better than having to read, I feel likes it’s more hands-on…if that makes since. You’ve made an already easy piece of software even easier. Are you planning on doing a Monoslideshow tutorial?

01.21.07

yeah, right now, people seem to want a video compression tutorial, then i’ll do an all-in-one monoslide show, swf’n slide and simple viewer tutorial. tnxs for watching…….

Hey does the source fla work with flash MX I can’t seem to make this work. Sorry I’m new to flash and the publisher wants chaptered sound slide for the web site

01.21.07

it was built in Flash 8. I’m sorry, I’m new to this too, and never worked on MX i started with 8, so i don’t know if it’s backwards compatible, i doubt it. Do you have access to 8?

01.21.07

If you have flash 8, just:
File>Save As
In the dialog box select format drop down and select flash mx 2004. The file should then work in MX 2004. I’m not sure about Flash MX (not MX 2004) though, MX is pretty old and I think only supports ActionScript 1.0 (yuck!).

01.21.07

the soundslides component will not work with flash mx, it has to be mx 2004 and above. the component is definitely one of the coolest things about soundslides. it makes doing chaptered slideshows much easier, so i would recommend convincing the publisher to upgrade your software.

hope this helps,

chris

Don’t have 8 just mx but I will try to get 8 I really want to make this work and so does my boss so maybe they will spring for a new version. Thanks for the help.

I have MX 2004 and have been unable to open the fla file you offer. Is there any way you can save the file as as MX 2004 and offer that so that some of us with Flash 8 can use it? Thanks anyhow for a great tutorial.

MX .Fla. ss now is the download folder, download again if you need in for Flash MX2004.

Richard thanks. Hope to post a project using your tutorial soon.

Rich, awesome work on this blog.

I have MX 2004 and I still can’t open the MX2004.Fla file you added. It takes me to this website below when I click on the new link.

Folks,
the source folder contains ‘chapter 1″ to chaptre 4″ instead of “chapter 2″ to “chapter 4″ like in the tutorial?
and i can’t rename the folders…pls assist…the tutorial is so great and easy to follow…but the source folder i downloaded on this page is diff. from the video…
i’m working with windows….

01.21.07

eric, sorry your comment got hung up in the spam filter. but it finally posted. yu still need help? in the video there are only chapter2 chapter3 and chapter4 in the folder, but then yu see me drag a publish to web folder and rename it chapter1 which now has all 4 chapters in it like the download folder. but basically all you have to do is just replace chapter1-4 folders with yur publish to web soundslides and it should work, if yu need more help, just holler you shouldn’t get caught in the spam filter anymore.

thanks for the respond, chief…
i went back and start from the beginning…drag 4 “publish to web folder” (diffrent soundslide project i made)
and rename them chapter 1-4, replacing the chapter from your source file…open the “chaptered_ss.fla” and pressing “ctrl+enter” (i’m using windows) to “test movie”
it gave me a long page error mostly with these ”

“file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/ETS/
Desktop/chaptered%5Fss/chapter2/soundslide.txt”
Error opening URL “file:///C|/Documents%20and%
20Settings/ETS/Desktop/chaptered%5Fss/chapter2/soundslide.txt”

appreciate and value your assist, your time…thanks..

01.21.07

that looks like a path error. are the chapter folders and the .fla all in the same folder? sounds like they are. make sure the chapter folders are named chapter1, etc. with no space. you can also send me a zipped folder with everything and i’ll have a look. rhernandez@mercurynews.com
