Magnum Photos Invites Newspapers To Participate In 60th Anniversary

Not multimedia, exactly, but an intersting idea, I wonder how many US newspapers will participate in this great idea. Wait! I just found this new post over a MagnumInMotion.

Another eyebrow raiser called Women's Day. I LOVED it. I really love what they are doing. I am gonna email a contact I have over there and ask them how they get away with using all that copyrighted sound.

NEW YORK (March 2, 2007) – Sixty years ago on April 17, 1947, two years after the Second World War ended, photojournalists Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, and David "Chim" Seymour created Magnum
Photos <http://www.magnumphotos.com>  in Paris to reflect their independent
natures as both people and photographers, reporters and artists.

Robert Capa, George Rodger, in Naples, Italy in 1943.Today, as part of
celebrating its 60th anniversary, Magnum Photos is offering daily newspapers
the opportunity to participate in "Magnum Front Page," a chance for editors
to pick a photograph from Magnum's digital image bank of more than 350,000
images and publish it for free on the front page of their paper to
illustrate a topic that's covered in the same issue.

"From its inception, Magnum Photos has collaborated with daily newspapers,
which, through their assignments and publications, have supported our
photographers' documentary and artistic practices," Magnum's editorial
department director Sue Brisk said. "In this spirit, Magnum Photos,
comprised today of more than 60 photographers, wish to involve daily
newspapers throughout the world in 'Magnum Front Page.'"

Newspapers are invited to participate in the project from January 17 and
April 17 of this year. The photograph, whose reproduction rights will be
granted free of charge, must be credited with the Magnum photographer's
name, followed by "Magnum Photos / 60th Anniversary."

Brisk says, "Once this 'Front Page' has been published, we would be grateful
if you could send us a .PDF of the page as quickly as possible, along with a
note explaining your choice of the Magnum picture and an original tear sheet
of your 'Front Page' as well. It may be included in an exhibition alongside
the original photograph at the next International Festival of
Photojournalism, Visa pour l'Image, in Perpignan, France, in September
2007." In addition, the front pages will be displayed on Magnum's Web site
for the rest of the anniversary celebration.

"We would be truly thrilled and proud to succeed in bringing together all
these global daily newspapers in the form of a document unique in the
history of the international media and of photojournalism," Brisk said.

Wow! Thanks for posting Women’s Day! That was wonderful! Great! Like one of those montages in the Oscars telecast, except — with stills! Brava!

I loved The Women’s Day slideshow as well.

Need to tell my DOP about the Magnum Front Page project.

What a generous thing for Magnum to do. I’ve already sent the press release to DOP friends throughout the U.S. Thanks for letting us know.

This is my first visit to this site and I’m digging!
